Tokyo Revengers – The next best anime

Hey guys what is up welcome back to my blog I’m so thankful that you guys took the time out of your day to read my blog post. Hope you all are safe from the COVID-19. This is honestly one of the best anime I might have seen till now and it has to be an anime that has the potential to be one of the best of this generation. I thought that this would be something different when I saw the trailer on twitter but what Tokyo Revengers is now is much much better. I jumped onto the manga at around the 6th episode but I’ve been keeping myself from writing that post because I wanted to talk about the anime first. SPOILERS AHEAD.

The story follows loser Takemichi Hanagaki whose life is the worst that can be. He works a job where a girl that is junior to him in age is his senior. He doesn’t have a purpose in life and is living aimlessly and he only ever had one girlfriend in life in middle school who was killed recently in a conflict by the Tokyo Manji Gang. You see where this is going don’t you ? Takemichi gains the power to time leap that is to transfer his current consciousness to his past body. Armed with this power Takemichi sets out to change his middle school life where he was a delinquent and save his girlfriend Tachibana Hinata. Coming into contact with the Tokyo Manji gang’s leaders, Takemichi learns that all is not as it seems and that the actions of his past will drastically affect the future. Aiming to stop the death of Hina by any means necessary, Takemichi begins a journey that will change him and his future and all those around him.

The characters are well written in Tokyo Revengers. The character development is slow but the characters stay true to their natures and personalities even as they change through the duration of the show. There’s our Crybaby Hero Takemichi Hanagaki. He’s back on a mission to save Hina and man his character feels so real to me. The trauma of his past of having always gotten beaten up gets to him so much that he’s always crying and yet he learns to push past the trauma. He still cries but he’s a hero even when he cries. There’s Tachibana Hinata, Takemichi’s middle school girlfriend and his support system, she’s the one who helps him keep going despite all the pain and failure that he faces. There’s Takemichi’s friends the Mizo Mid’s furious five who are real friends and always have Takemichi’s back. Then comes the leader of the Tokyo Manji Gang, Sano Manjiro aka the undefeatable Mikey, he’s an absolute powerhouse and his character is the most well written according to me. There’s the big brother of the group, Draken and a lot lot more characters who I do not want to spoil here.

The anime shines in how really it shows the delinquent world. Right from the get go from when we are introduce to Takemichi’s delinquent life in his middle school days we get to see how absolutely brutal they are when they fight, showing absolutely no mercy. There’s brutal fights which lead to some character’s being in a near death state but that’s not it, there’s crimes committed, even murders happen and it isn’t that it’s all good when they do it, these guys have to face the consequences by dealing with the police and also dealing with the mental and psychological stress, the guilt of their actions. There’s also the absolutely amazing opening that feels like it’s been composed just for the show and the great fights which make you question if these guys are even middle schoolers at all. There’s also Takemichi dealing with his past trauma which feels real and feels satisfying to watch him break through. While the story is serious and intense there are also fun moments that definitely help in the pacing of the show.

The lesson to draw from this manga is to never give up. Yeah, that’s the simple one that I’m taking out of this one. Never give up, like Takemichi because no matter how tough his opponents are, no matter how hard his battles are and no matter how many times he falls down he still gets back up and when he gets back up he knocks the opponent out cold. There’s also the lesson of not getting in to the delinquent life because if there’s anything to learn from this manga its that unlike the glamourized picturization of gangsters in the films, the real deal is much more dangerous and has consequences.

The finale while obviously not the end is obviously a nice place to end at according to me and as a manga reader who knows what is going to come next, I’m sure that Season 2 is going to be much more amazing and incredible. There’s also the fact that the anime is so faithful to the manga and while the animation is not the greatest Tokyo Revengers is still a great watch.

Rap section:

Going back to middle school living the delinquent life,
Acting tough and between gangs there’s strife,
With loud bikes and tough teens in this word are rife,
If things get hard ain’t afraid to use a knife.

Among all this Takemichi is using time travel,
Going to the past no he’s going into battle,
But he’s lost his toughness now he’s a bit fragile,
But the secret to Hina’s murder he’s gonna unravel.

It ain’t as simple as doing it once he’s gotta go do it again,
Many more times until he reaches the time when,
It’s a nice future yeah it’s a ten on ten,
But it isn’t gonna be easy when every fight is intense.

Joining up with Toman he stands by the strongest,
In each and every fight he’ll survive the longest,
He’s a part of the gang and if he’s being honest,
Calling them strong is just being modest.

So that is it for this post guys hope you got some value from this.  Thank you guys for reading to the end hit me up on Instagram, Twitter and LinkedIn with your thoughts and if you have any ideas which I should write about. Stay safe from the COVID-19. Thank you again and I’ll see you all next week.
